Can you take whey protein whenever? Including off days? Or is it strictly after workout?

I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to fitness/nutrition, but my co-worker caught me drinking GNC Hyperbolic Mass Gainer on my off day and he said that I should just stick to drinking whey protein all the time, including off days. Is he correct? Isn’t it true, though, that whey is fast absorbing, and if the body doesn’t need it, that it will store in fat?

Just remember to include it in your daily caloric intake. If you use it as a meal replacement than you will be fine and it wont turn. I mix my http://www.cleanwhey.com with water to keep the calories down.

if you workout for example on 3 days a week, (Mon, Wed, Fri), and Tuesday and Thursday are your days off, you should continue to drink the shakes as you do on training days, muscles dont recover within hours, they take a few days to fully repair, drinking the shakes will aid in recovery, if you have too much intake of protein (more than 1g per kilo bodyweight), the body will just pass it out in urine/excretement. Obviously too much protein too often can cause kidney problems later in life, but – in short, as ling as your training, 2-3 shakes a day should be fine.
(I have one with water in the morning for a wake up protein hit, another with water post workout, and a third with milk before bed for the slow release overnight)
