Why aren’t I gaining weight?

Hi. I’m underweight. I’m 26, 6 foot and weigh 128 pounds. I am desperate to put on weight. I have been training with weights three times a week, twice with a personal trainer for a year. Doing a mix of strength and stamina. No cardio at all. I’m eating so much I’m nauseous most of the time. I’m taking protein supplements, creatine, gainer shakes. Eating lots of protein and carbs. About 50:50. I’m getting 2500 – 3000 calories a day most days. Sometimes I get so sick I can only manage 2000. I am basically eating as much as my stomach will allow. I’m definitely eating a lot more than when I started training. But after a year I haven’t put on any weight. The most I got to was 131.6 pounds at a massive push and it came strait back off after a week. The strange thing is I’m definitely getting substantially stronger. My trainer has assured me that my rate of strength gain is normal, if not above average. How can this be? What is wrong with me?

u must have a very fast metabolism….. there are drinks you can buy that actually put weight on you… ‘build up’ is a popular one….

Don’t be desperate. You need to take a slow, calculated, scientific approach.

You are blessed with an incredibly high metabolism.

A nutritionist friend of mine who used to be the nutritionist for the San Francisco 49ers, said Andre Carter, who now plays for the RedSkins used to have to Eat over 8000 Calories a day to not lose weight.

Your exercise plan sounds great. Your diet sounds like a good weight gaining diet.

I have an idea which may help you gain weight. Have you ever heard of maltodextrin? It is a carbohydrate which is derived from corn and is a complex carb, which encourages rapid release of energy. It is in many weight gainers and protein supplements.

Maltodextrin is tasteless, and dissolves completely in water. If you start adding it to your drinking water you will add many calories in your diet, without filling you up so you feel sick.

It is what they give the sled dogs in the iditerod race in Alaska before the race for energy!

Best of all, it is super cheap, you can usually find it for like 5 dollars a pound or even cheaper.

I had the same problem and started taking some Whey Protein. I also started lifting weights like a monster and now I’ve gained like 30 pounds in like 4 months! I lift “heavy”. Enough weight to just do like 7-8 reps!

You should be happy that your not gaining weight! :) Normally people are complaining on the situation of why they are gaining weight.
I’ve just checked some of the other peoples answers out and I have to agree with the others, It’s probably genetic why your not gaining weight or you probably have a faster metabolism than others. I know at my gym, There are some men who are naturally skinny and they take a protein supplement called ‘Mammoth’ And apparantly it tastes like McDonnalds milkshakes so it can’t be that bad, Lol! Good luck with everything :)

there are 3 body types ectomorphs, mesomorphs and endomorphs.sounds like you are a ectomorph.

Ectomorphs should concentrate on gaining weight in the form of good lean muscle tissue (some women that are too thin may also want to put on a little fat to look more feminine). Weight training should be done but not too often or for too long each session. Weight should be fairly heavy and workout pace slower (longer rest periods between sets). Diet should be high in calories (good quality food not junk) and you should eat more then you’re used to and often. Aerobic and other activities (sports, dancing, etc.) should be kept to a minimum, at least until you are happy with your weight and looks.

may be built on something similar to meritocracy, but the generals aren't necessarily their most badass fighters (unless they're Takeda Shingen).

As for RPG's, again you become the most badass guy in the world but that doesn't mean you're the chief of the organization necessarily.]]>
