Is Gatorade and Powerade really bad for your teeth? Besides that do they really work like they say they do?

I have heard that both of them are really bad for your teeth. Also I have heard that they don’t really do much for you. That water is the best thing when excercising and all that. So does Gatorade and Powerade not really do anything? Are they just full of sugar?

I am trying to stop drinking coca cola, because I am addicted to it. I have been drinking powerade, because its the only thing keeping me from craving caffeine. I am wanting to lose weight by not drinking so much soda, but my addiction is fighting me.

all sugary drinks are ‘bad’ for your teeth. teeth can still take a beating though. be sure to brush 2+ times a day and youll be fine. these drinks are good at providing you with energy in the form of carbohydrates. water will just rehydrate you. i think the best drink while exercising would be protein shakes. it might not taste the best, but its packed with protein and carbs to help rebuild muscle.

I studied one subject of nutrition at Uni when I was doing my Human Movement Science Degree and we discussed this question. At that point in time (2002) our lecturers said there was no conclusive evidence that powerade or gaterade is any better or worse than water. More expensive for sure. However my boyfriend rides motocross and swears powerade etc replenish his energy etc much better than water. Is it just that it tastes and looks better so you can drink it more easily? Don
t forget to brush your teeth and if possible swish your mouth with water after drinking any softdrink/sugar drink. Especially if you are prone to holes in your teeth.

Yes, powerade is a great substitution for Coke.

-Substituting “Worse” for “Bad”- is seldom a very good idea. ;) Just try to cut back to a couple of glasses of Coke a day, & drink MORE water in between- & you’ll be a LOT better off… :)
