Can you live off of Whey Protein Shakes?

I want to lose at least 25 pounds before school starts. I currently weigh 149 and I only have until August 9 to lose the weight. I plan to exercise every other day and drink the protein shakes at least twice a day.

    You’re not going to lose 25 pounds in a month.
    Your body needs a certain amount of nutrients per day to remain healthy. You won’t get that from protein shakes

    yea, but it wouldnt be healthy, you would lose alot of weight but you would also feel tired, weak, because you arnt taking your carbs. i say stick with a balanced diet that way you would always be high in motivation and also you will lose weight healthy

    I am a sophomore and quite short (5’3), and i weigh 127, but i still want to lose weight because i look fat and have no muscle. i have tried EAS whey protein shakes and you cannot live off them. I would suggest having one at brunch for both breakfast and lunch, then eat a small amount of fruits and veggies, and have a mini dinner or a protien shake.

    Technically you can live off Whey Protein shakes but if you want to keep this weight off, then this is not going to help as much. Yes, if you do decide to do this then you will lose weight maybe 10 pounds but as soon as school starts, trust me, it will all come right back. Try to add more veggies and other healthy shakes in your diet and I’m sure that in 2 months (instead of 1) that the pounds will come right off. Good luck :)

    You can’t live off them. They have no vitamins, so you’ll probably get scurvy :S

    I think your goal is slightly unrealistic. You’d need to lose about 1 pound a day. That’s a 3500-calorie deficit every day.

    Here’s what you need to do: (Quoting from a friend)

    Go to italy. Portions are small and expensive, and transportation is expensive (ex: 7 dollars for a 12 oz coke), so you’ll need to walk a lot. My friend lost 11 pounds in 2 weeks, eating pizza :D

    In a word…NO. They don’t have the proper nutrients for a balanced diet. They are typically used in conjunction with a diet as a supplement. However they can count as a single meal if you’re eating 7 meals a day like I do. Just shakes won’t work and will actually be very counterproductive to anything you’re trying to do. Your body would adjust to receiving so little real food it would store what you do take in as fat. It’s trying to protect you and your vital organs from failure. Food is the fuel of the body for everything we do. Don’t skimp on it. Just eat the right things in the right amounts at the right times and you’ll be where you want to be.
